Reset your password

Password recovery options depend on your account type and your district's configuration. Site-user self-service password recovery may not be enabled in your district.

Account types

Site users

Site users need their username, barcode, and birth date if self-service password recovery is enabled.

A staff member can reset a site user's password from the patron record by entering and confirming a new password, and then clicking Save.

Note: When resetting a site user's password, if your district does not use LDAP, do not select Clear Password. Clearing the password prevents the patron from logging in.

District users and Destiny Administrators

Every district has one built-in Destiny Administrator account (destinyadmin). If multiple staff members administer Destiny, your district might also have named Destiny Administrator accounts with unique email addresses.

District users, named Destiny Administrators accounts, and the original destinyadmin account need a current, district-approved email address associated with their account. SMTP must be configured for email recovery to work.

To make sure a Destiny Administrator can reset their own password, review the steps for setting up password recovery.

If email recovery is unavailable:

  • District user: A Destiny Administrator can reset the password.
  • Named Destiny Administrator account: Someone with access to the original destinyadmin account can reset the password.
  • Original destinyadmin account: This account is stored separately from district user records, so another Destiny Administrator account cannot reset its password.

Important: If Follett Software Technical Support provides a temporary Destiny Administrator password, log in with it and immediately change it.

SSO or LDAP users

SSO or LDAP users have passwords managed by the district's sign-in provider (for example, Google, Microsoft, ClassLink, or LDAP). Destiny's password-recovery options do not reset a provider-managed password. Contact your district IT department.
